Description

This two-day, one-night event introduces Year 12 students to life at university. Through a number of team working activities, sports sessions and a night spent in halls of residence, students will develop their key transferable skills and gain an insight into life as an undergraduate.

Participating students will be set a communication challenge by the Speaker’s Trust where they will develop key transferable skills such as;

• Negotiation and problem-solving

• Independent research and presentation

• Team working and leadership

• Active listening and communication

Throughout the day students will also hear from wider University departments, take part in a number of sporting activities, stay in a catered halls of residence and have ambassadors on hand to answer any questions about life at University.

FURTHER DETAILS
This residential is open to students who have studied a level 2 or level 3 qualification at a school/college or 6th form in the 2017/18 academic year.

Places are limited and will be offered to students that meet our eligibility criteria on a first come first served basis.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
As with other activities by Pathways, the Year 12 Residential is aimed at pupils who fulfill a number of widening participation criteria.

As the event is externally funded, student eligibility is determined by the Office for Students (OfS)

Priority will be given to students who fill one or more of the following:

• Live in an area identified as a Pathways ward (determined by home postcode)

• Be the first in their family to consider attending university

• Be in receipt of free school meals

• Be in or have spent time in local authority care

• Are a young carer

• Have a disability including specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD

Working in partnership under the name Pathways, the Universities and Further Education colleges will be offering a number of activities at different campuses across the East Midlands.

We work with schools and colleges across Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire on a range of different interventions. Pupils who take part in our events can experience life at university, develop new skills, explore future careers and more.

We are passionate about ensuring young people from underrepresented backgrounds can progress into Higher Education.
